Snake illustrations have a long history in natural history publishing, but this antique print stands out for its striking balance of scientific detail and decorative form. Showing a viper or adder, a common snake and a rattlesnake arranged across a softly aged background, it has all the character of a nineteenth-century zoological plate, with bold curves and beautifully observed markings that feel both scholarly and dramatic. A compelling choice for anyone drawn to antique reptile prints, vintage herpetology art and unusual natural history decor, it brings contrast, curiosity and a quietly gothic edge to a study, hallway, office or gallery wall.
This is an edited reproduction made from antique/public domain source imagery.
Print quality
Printed on beautifully textured 300gsm cotton rag paper using archival pigment inks, this reproduction has a crisp, characterful finish that suits antique natural history artwork especially well. The heavyweight fine art paper gives the image depth and presence, while the archival inks help preserve its fine linework, subtle tonal variation and printed detail.
